Day 80 - Sunday, August 15
“When you don’t hurt more than the day before, you know you are winning the war.” David Green ;-)
After yesterday’s survival march, I was nervous today wouldn’t be much better. I have a bad back and when it goes out I can literally be on my back for 10-14 days. So, after being sore from the mountain crossing and then feeling it tighten up yesterday I was really nervous. But, one good nights rest and perhaps a fine lamb ragu gave me what I needed to get back in the right direction.
Today was a run from Glenrock to Casper, WY and what will be the north most point of the trip. Since leaving Jacksonville Beach we have steadily gone northwest and beginning on the next leg we will be heading southwest towards Salt Lake City which is 12 days running. The North Platte originates in Walden CO which is south of us on a higher elevation and we will go towards that town but veer off in a few days.
Lucky is doing better than he has the entire trip - appetite is ravenous, going to the bathroom normally and he is running strong with me which means he doesn’t trail back or have a limp after 16 miles today. I am hopeful that tomorrow’s trip to Colo State Veterinary will provide us with the option to try another protocol. We have landed at Fort Caspar RV Campground for the night and plan to leave here at 6am to make it to Fort Collins, CO for his 11am appointment then take care of chores while we wait for answers. Once the mission is complete, we head back to sleep and get back on the road Tuesday morning.
All for today - thank you for your ongoing support.
Cheers,
David.
