Run Across America
David, Chris & Lucky
March 22nd, 2021
The Mission
On March 22nd, we are embarking on a trip of a life time. I will walk out my front door, run 2 miles to the Atlantic Ocean, then head west to visit my mother and 104 year old grandmother in Sacramento finishing up in Mill Valley to meet my son Gabriel, brother Danny & Family and touch the Pacific Ocean at Muir Beach roughly 3,400 miles later.
The journey will not be about breaking records or raising money for a cause although worthy. Rather for me it is about seeking personal enlightenment through exploring limits, reconnecting with friends, country and inspiring anyone to chase big dreams while we still can!
With the support of Alex as Crew Chief, Lucky as Chief Pacer and an RV there are no additional logistical issues needed to make this happen except desire and perseverance. This also opens my “door” to anyone who wants to pop in and join the adventure for a stretch.
The route will traverse many National Historic Trails such as The Appalachian, Trail of Tears, Santa Fe, Mormon, Pony Express and Route 66. I plan on running an ultra-marathon a day (34 mile average), so I am happy to walk if that is what you would like – the only thing I won’t do is go hard!
Happy Trails.
P.S. On April 4th after 400 miles, I learned that I had developed a stress fracture in my right Tibia and would need to heal for 8-10 weeks. In the interim, my 104 year grandmother who is one of my primary motivations to meet in Sacramento suffered a fall and subsequent to returning, Lucky has lymphoma that had spread to his colon, liver and lymphatic system. I am happy to report that both are making progress and I amy looking forward to relaunching on June 2nd with Chris as the new Crew Chef - not a typo, he is actually a chef! Going to be a lot of fun getting to know each other and eat over the next few months.
