Day 50 - Saturday, July 10
Bob’s last day on the road was magical. Severe weather provided cover from the sun and gave us dramatic vistas along today’s route from Tipton to Boonville MO. Lightening was our biggest fear of the day yet somehow we felt safe from the rain under our big hats and able to enjoy the lower temps.
My highlight of the day was a break in the storms where I got a chance to chat with Bob about how he maintains the drive and energy to achieve all he does - spoiler alert, he started running ultra marathons when he was 60!
But we get ahead of ourselves….we were intrigued to see that in our RV world there are folks who still believe Trump is President. I am working diligently on getting an interview with them.
Shortly after 7:30pm while Chris and I were chatting we realized Bob had done the smart thing and just passed out. Just like his rest at the Zion Cemetery he did wake up…
We really hit the heartland today with most of it spent on the gravel farm roads that connect the communities. With the dark skies throughout the day, we had beautiful deep shades of green, blue and grey on everything and the photos were excellent. I will let the pictures do the talking below.
After our run, we showered and headed towards Columbia to drop off Bob. We made a quick pit stop at our favorite restaurant in Columbia called Murry’s where we had fried oysters with drawn butter, Greek salad with anchovies, chicken with lemon & pesto, salmon, broccoli and mashed potatoes which we washed down with a bottle of Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay. We finished with 3 desserts of pecan pie, chocolate cake and black berry cobbler all generously portioned with whipped cream and ice cream - we could hardly walk!
Bob will go home for a few days and recover from the 4 days we spent together and then head to Death Valley next Thursday to attempt to become the oldest person to finish the Badwater 135 race at the young age of 76. Good luck Bob!!
Tomorrow begins the Santa Fe Trail out of Boonville - big day.
Thank you for your continued support -
Cheers,
David.
