Day 96 - Saturday, September 4
We woke up to a beautiful morning with 50 degree temp and crystal clear sky. In addition, I knew that my friend Loren was coming out from SLC to meet me for a fun run in the desert today so no time to be tired!
None the less, my recent weight loss has me fatigued early in the day. When I met Chris for the first break he solved the problem with a beautiful cheddar cheese melt and home fries with more melted cheddar. Two Gatorade’s, cup of coffee and chocolate chip cookies I felt back to normal.
Loren met me midway on the 30 mile day and we just passed the time catching up and talking about the trip - especially the Mormon Trail as he just learned about his families immigration west only 6 months ago. When we arrived in Delta, UT I couldn’t believe how quickly the time passed. I also noticed a little Tacqueria and slipped in for a carnitas taco and coke - perfect combination. From there we had 6 miles to Hinckley, our destination town where Chris met us and ferried us back to the mother ship.
Loren joined us for Chris’ bolognese pasta and salad which he found at a local farmers market. Afterwards, Loren pointed out that Utah eats the most ice cream per capita so we complied with heaping bowls of vanilla ice cream with frozen chocolate chips.
Tomorrow begins the mission we have been preparing for since we left Jacksonville - a 466 mile remote stretch from Hinckley to Carson City on Highway 50 which I hope to reach on September 18th. There are a few small towns but the first is 150 miles from Hinckley. Chris will be going back and forth the next few days between towns to restock and make sure we have water. I may not have any cell signal so the blog may be paused until we reach civilization again.
All for today - thank you Loren for coming out! And, for everyone’s support.
Cheers,
David.
