Day 28 - Wednesday, June 16

Hallelujah I almost had a “normal” day!

We woke up to an invigorating temperature of 55 degrees in the back of a Walmart in Mcminville TN. Bonus was we were able to get WiFi from Walmart because we were close enough to the building. Simple plan today was to head up the Old Nashville Hwy to Woodbury and stay off 4 lane Highway 70S. Following Google Maps I ended up at a dead end with an opening in a fence. Looking back at Maps, I noticed the road went through the fence and continued on the other side so i started to walk across the field. It was then I noticed Lucky and I were walking into the end/beginning of the runway of Wayne County Memorial Airport! I looked all around and couldn’t see any planes taxi’ing or coming in so we scooted right across the field and then noticed we were locked into the airport area so we made our way to the tarmac where planes come into the terminal, walked over the gate that had a sign, “Crew and Passengers Only Beyond this Point”, opened from the inside and walked out into the terminal. From there we casually walked out and the road picked up again!

The only waypoint today was a town called Centertown. The Centertown Bank founded 1919 pretty much summed up the health of this tiny town -

I travelled a quiet country road today that went through heart of agricultural area as far as the eye could see. The only distraction along the route was the bleeting of a few young goats calling Lucky and I from the road to come over and say hi - they were very cute.

I finally saw another sign signifying that I was on the National Historic Trail of Tears - with no trail to be found! At least the road had a nice shoulder.

Woodbury is a town where Taco Bell & Sonic Drive-In are the to restaurants and the only shopping is at a Piggly Wiggly. Chris found a great spot for the night at a town park that has baseball fields and a rodeo arena. The kicker is that the park has water for RV and WiFi coming from someplace - it will be a good night…

All for now; thank you for continued support.

Cheers,

David.
