Day 56 - Saturday, July 17
Yesterday was a real trial for me as I did not feel all that great. We also did not have any cell coverage which was probably for the better because after a superb meal of halibut, asparagus and fresh tomato salad w olive oil, basil and onion, I got into bed at 7am and fell asleep immediately. I woke at 3:30am and felt fantastic, all pains were gone and my outlook was positive and strong. The rest also did Lucky some good and he was animated about getting out with me.
I love the pre-sun mornings when we are country/dirt roads and can move with the light of the stars and moon. We had the country side to ourselves and Lucky took advantage of it not having to heel, he could chase the rabbits, deer, possum and squirrels to his hears content. We had almost 10 miles of bliss until I got back to busy Route 24 which became a 4 lane highway with 70 mph speed limit. I handed Lucky off after 15 miles to Chris and after refueling myself, go to work moving through Topeka and then 5 miles west.
Luck & I had a really strong day out there but sadly we didn’t meet anyone today. After stopping out on the side of Route 24, we boarded the rig and drove 15 minutes to a campground and set up shop.
Chris made a killer salad and with my leftover carbonara from Toscano’s and a bowl of vanilla ice cream and chocolate chips I’m a happy camper. I will need to focus on getting calories down now as my weight which started at 174 (heavy for me) just hit 163 today and I can’t go much below 162 without risking getting sick or injured.
As I lay in bed getting ready to shut down, Chris has taken the leftover KC bbq ribs and burnt ends, stripped the meat and is making a chili….going to be good eating the next few days.

Chris’ salad creation that included the halibut from last night, romaine lettuce we have had for 2 weeks, spring lettuce, tomatoes from farmers market, kimchee, pickles, red onion, olive oil, salt and pepper, lemon juice and a touch of balsamic. Washed it down with a German style brown ale made from a local KC brewing company called KC Bier. Amazing meal!
