Day 15 - Wednesday, June 2
We are on the road again!!
Chris arrived in Jacksonville on Monday night and walked into a nice bon voyage party with the gang that has supported me on this adventure. After a great night of breaking bread and getting to know each other, we went to sleep with the hope of getting out early on Tuesday. And of course we ran out of hours in the day. Lucky was dropped off at 8am for chemo - we couldn’t pick him up until 7:30pm and he was heavily sedated and not feeling great; evidenced by his inability to eat and lackluster behavior. The RV was almost ready to go - unfortunately when we arrived back home we realized that the “courtesy inspection” General RV gave us overlooked a tire that was low on pressure, propane level not full and a floor issue that was not addressed. So we had to drive back to General and have it addressed. In addition, repacking, restocking and the biggest issue - Chris needed to learn how to operate the craft. Alex was instrumental in passing on the knowledge with patience and his typical humor…Thanks for this!
The day finally ended with a great meal at Picasso’s Italian Restaurant. Alex had an 8 out of 10 chicken parm, Chris had a nice salad with artichokes, olives and greens followed by perfectly prepared salmon and i polished off pasta arribiatta with spicy sausage.
We launched this morning at 7am sharp and headed straight to the spot where we launched 8 weeks ago to touch the Atlantic Ocean. Chris commented that he couldn’t believe how soft the sand is and I have to admit, it really was and something I haven’t appreciated as much as I need to. We arrived in Gainesville GA at 3:30pm after Chris deftly piloted the ship without incident on the 400+ mile route. We decided why not get started immediately on an 11 mile walk/run so we could begin testing out the gear, the body, the RV, Lucky and the routine. Sadly Lucky was unable to join me, he is not feeling well after yesterday’s treatment so we take one day at a time. All else checked out and after a so, so meal at a Sushi Zen, we hit Publix to get essentials and parked in Murrayville GA where we will begin our next waypoint into North Georgia - Dahlonega. This also happens to be the 14th district in Georgia and home to one of our countries congressional representatives named Marjorie Taylor Greene…can’t wait to try to get an interview tomorrow…
Cheers,
David.
