Lucky spent Monday night in the hospital and I was told he did great by the doctor first thing this morning. In short, his cancer has returned to his liver and it is in his blood. But, he has responded to the Prednisone so there is hope, albeit small. Finally, his white blood cell count is 54k vs normal of 5k which implies an infection that they cannot find so a mystery right now. Bottom line, he was given L-Asparaginase which is not chemo but a drug that removes the enzyme that lymphoma needs to reproduce. Hopefully this shows results and we have scheduled an appointment to return to Fort Collins next Monday and see if he has improved enough to try another type of chemo. If he has not improved it is probably the end of the line. So, we have Lucky “home” and we have driven back to where we left off, Lingle, WY!
Tomorrow we resume where we left off passing through Fort Laramie and ending in Hartsville WY. We have a few critical issues in the RV: generator is not operating well - this provides our power when we boon-dock which is most of the time, our steering stabilization warning light is on and our tire sensor light is on. All of these issues are under warranty - if you don’t mind driving 300 miles and scheduling an appointment for October…Chris is going to scramble tomorrow in Torrington WY and see if the Ford dealership can help as well as a machine shop.
Dr. Martens was incredible to work with - patient, responsive and compassionate. I am amazed how consistent this is in the veterinary community. Colorado State University Veterinary is observing strict COVID protocols so no one goes inside - tech come out and get info, bring in the dog and then hand off when done. She was kind enough to come out to the RV to meet and chat about status.
