Day 68 - Saturday, July 31

The big news today is 1,750 miles completed and “only” 1,650 left!

It figures that after a super tough week of feel like temps above 100 and a super fast day yesterday the wheels fell off today. I have overcome the stress fractures, blisters, knee pain and nothing physically is in my way except for a day that my legs felt absolutely dead - which meant I basically walked most of the 34 miles. Weather was good with temps in the 70’s and no sun so what could go wrong?!

I don’t have the answer but I am sure that just because I crashed today, doesn’t mean it will happen tomorrow. And, I have the confidence that I will rebound.

We climbed another 200’ of elevation today as we made our way west towards Wyoming and not sit at 2,809’.

I received a call from Clea, my 104 year old grandmother, about my location. She grew up in Schuyler NE on an 80 acre farm and told me that the eastern part - where she grew up -is strong community. But, as i get to the western boundary it becomes frontier. She recalled that in the 50s she and Ray would finish teaching class at 5pm and then drive on the Lincoln Highway - same road I am on - until Little America in Wyoming where they would have some food around midnight. Then drive through the night to Minnetonka NV and finally to Sacramento where they visited her sister Eileen for the weekend. Then turn around and come home! As she told me she would fly by all the towns on their way. I, on the other hand, feel like I am crawling through on some days.

Chris and I are getting defensive with the Delta Covid strain. With the numbers going dramatically higher we will opt for onboard dining - which works for me because Chris is better chef than any restaurants we have eaten at!

All for tonight as I try to rebound for tomorrow.

One note, we have added a page for Chris’s pictures on the site - hope you enjoy.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Cheers,

David.
