Day 9 - September 13
Day 9: Villarmentero de Campos to Sahagun. We left our Alberge at 7:30am after the owner woke up early to serve us a wonderful breakfast of fried eggs, assorted meats, toast, juice and coffee. My recommendation to all the business owners along the Camino is cut the portions in half and it would still be plenty! We had a little rain yesterday but expected bigger showers today and for the next two days.
Amy and I are feeling tired from the miles but yesterdays early arrival, time off our legs, early dinner and 9 hours in bed helped a lot as we eased into the day. We have gotten into the routine now of cranking out 30-35km after breakfast and finding a lunch spot and afterwards closing out the remaining 15-20km fully fueled. Another day of beautiful countryside with small villages that sprinkled our path. Brief morning showers led to a rainbow and brighter sky for a few hours until the afternoon when a scary thunderstorm edged our way, finally soaking us to the bone. Fortunately, we were just on the outskirts of a town where we found the only cafe and dipped inside while the lighting lit up the fields around us. Thirty minutes later there was a break in the action and we made a break for it successfully.
We have reached the official “half way” point of the Camino in the town of Sahagun with around 400km left which we will do in the final 8 days averaging 50k+ per day.
Finally, Christina walked the town today and found nice street art as you can see in the pics below.
Off to find a meal -
Cheers,
David.
