Day 78 - Friday, August 13
Today felt like the most normal, glorious day with Lucky in a long time. I’m sure the Prednisone has something to do with this but it is also getting my hopes up that it bodes well for another shot at a different protocol next Monday if he is strong enough.
Big milestone today was passing 2,000 miles on this journey and less than 1,400 miles to go.
Waking up around 2:30am and by 3:45am donning my hat and hydration vest, Lucky lets me know loud and clear he is ready to roll.
I on the other hand feel beat up from the mountainous day prior. My legs are sore, fatigued and feel out of gas. But, just because you feel crappy one minute doesn’t mean you will feel the same if you get moving. And so I took one step after another and started feeling a little better down the road.
The route today was on road from Glendo which sports Glendo Resevoir and a big summer boating season to Douglas which happens to be hosting the Annual Wyoming State Fair where 65,000 folks are coming to a weekend of events that include dairy goat showings, livestock showings, horse showings and many more showings culminating with a big sold out rodeo. Chris found a spot across the County Fair in Riverside Park which was a gem - shady spots right next to the North Platte River and restrooms nearby.
Along the route into town, I saw stunning landscape that felt like I was traipsing through God’s playground. Vast open land with dry vegetation, the North Platte carving its way through the land and creating massive sand cliffs while at the same time providing life to the plants along its green banks. Lucky saw a deer and I released him for the chase which i caught on video. I also captured a small herd of antelope which were hanging out on the plains and then crossed in front of me.
All for today as I will go to sleep early or I should say earlier as I typically go to bed around 7pm which is already early! Sleep is one of the primary keys to my recovery and when I’m feeling this way I am confident of recovery if I just sleep.
Of course Chris’s cooking also helps and tonight we had the last of the bbq meat chili which was served over pepper jack orzo and topped with sour cream, scallions and grated cheese. He set a high bar with that batch but he aims to go after it again in the near future.
Thank you for your support -
Cheers,
David.
