Pre-Relaunch Update #2 - Monday, May 17th

Lucky has made his first 2 rounds of chemo - his will and iron gut has helped him move through each checkpoint successfully. After he stopped eating for 3 days it seemed it was over but cooking chicken and rice and feeding him by hand he has gained back the weight he has lost - around 6 pounds on 60 pounds, and is energetic again. I learned at the post chemo meeting with Dr. Walker that the chemo course is 19 weeks…this was news to me. And of course Dr. Walker treats anyone who goes through this sequence almost 100% of the time all the way through. Therefore, options are to leave him in Jacksonville to be treated and meet him afterward - if he makes it - as the course will take over 4 months and I’d be back by then OR figure out a way to do it on the trip. I have learned through this process that unlike human chemo therapy where they really go all in to eradicate the cancer with severe side effects, the canine protocol is to balance quality of life as they can not advocate for themselves to buy a little more time. And sadly, there is no cure, just a few more months, maybe a year. Anyone who has met Lucky knows he is the life at any gathering and if we have this little time together we need to make it count. So the mission is now to figure out how to do something that hasn’t been done (to my knowledge), go across country with him and get through cities where we can find Vets who will administer the course of chemo that has been prescribed knowing that each day out there may be the end of the line. Over the next few days I will be reaching out to Oncology Veterinarians to see if they will help.

On the RV side, some parts are in, others in transit and we will hopefully have final word on the when later this week.

Finally on the partner side, i have someone who is interested in joining the mission thanks to a connection through Lisa. More on that in the next few days as it all comes together…or not.

All for now.

Keep the faith,

David.
