Day 114 - Wednesday, September 22
I begin today’s entry with yesterday’s arrival at Eskaton. Rachel, my niece, filmed the run in to Eskaton and into the arms of Grammy and Mom - it was an awesome moment for me and one that made the entire journey worthwhile. The video is the first one below.
I began the day 123 miles away from the Pacific Ocean and for these last few miles after 3,220 the plan is:
Today: 22 Miles to Davis CA so we can spend another night at Eskaton with family
Thursday: 36 miles to Fairfield CA
Friday: 36 miles to GreenBriar CA
Saturday: 23 miles…easy! Arrive for Monica’s birthday in Mill Valley for celebration
Sunday: 6 miles to Muir Beach with Monica & Chris and touch the Pacific Ocean -> FINISHED!
On today’s leg, Rachel, who has never run more than 13 miles, met me at the RV at 4:30am and google maps struck again for the 3rd time on this journey with a challenging route: it took us through the most dangerous neighborhoods in Sacramento! We survived to tell the tale and were even helped by homeless people when there were closures on the road that would have prevented us from going forward. We even chatted with a few people and finally made it to downtown Sac after 13 miles to a friendly Starbucks. From there we ran the last 9 miles along I80 and when we arrived at Davis CA, we couldn’t hear each other because of all the noise along the highway. Rachel killed it today, smiling the whole way! We did 22 miles together and she felt tired but great.
Chris and I are doing a talk about the run with the Eskaton Community and then out to dinner with family. I’ll need to holdback on wine drinking as last nights 2 glasses almost did me in today!
Home stretch…thank you for your support.
Cheers,
David.
