Day 115 - Thursday, September 23

Chris & I were honored to host a talk on Running Across America and a Q&A for the community of Eskaton. Great questions from the audience made me realize how profound the experience has been as I’ve been so focused on getting this mission accomplished.

Afterwards, we all went out to dinner Zinfandels, a local favorite. Clea aka Grammy was not sure about going as she was concerned about the noise and being a burden. She decided to step out of the comfort zone and just go out and she had a great night. Now I know where I get that gene from…

I had a few glasses of wine and paid for it this morning once again. My tolerance has completely disappeared! We left Eskaton at 4:15am and drove to Davis CA where I finished yesterday at a Starbucks. It was a cool morning as I began my day heading west and soon found myself running through UC Davis which was a beautiful university town. Once I cleared the town I was back in farmland. My route was 36 miles to the town of Fairfield. Google Maps recommended a route that looked like steps going south west. But cutting the steps in the middle were the railroad tracks which I decided to try and it worked out that I saved about 3 miles taking the middle line. While I saved on the route, the temperature hit 100 degrees and it was a rough ending to the day.

Our end point on the day was Fairfield but with no RV Parks I decided to call City Hall. It was my Lucky day as I met Bill Way on the phone; he is the Communication Manager for the town. I explained our mission and predicament and he graciously offered to let us stay in a parking lot. Sometime later he reached back out to me and told me he wanted to switch our spot because he looked at our route and thought it would be more convenient for us. When I ran into this wonderful town he was waiting with Karen, Matt and Robinson to greet me. What an incredible way to end the day - from the bottom of my heart - thank you for your hospitality Fairfield!

Tomorrow is a 36 mile run into Greenbriar in Richmond CA, then 25 miles into Mill Valley and Monica’s birthday. Sunday will be a 6 miles grand finale down to Muir Beach. 3 days left…

Thank you all for the support.

Cheers,

David.
