Day 59 - Tuesday, July 20

Today felt like the last day of an event as we woke up late’ish around 4:15am and headed out from our RV spot at 5:30am to head back to the remote area where we left off. By 6am I was on the dirt road again heading North towards Marysville KS where we will camp up for the night and take tomorrow off to tend to Lucky and stocking for the road ahead.

Lucky was in rare form this morning having been introduced yesterday to deer sleeping in the bush on side of street, rabbits running everywhere and now his favorite - cows. On a misty morning we had all of those and more on our route. He learned today the consequences of crashing through barbed wire fences to herd cattle as he came back with cuts on his snout and both front legs.

After 15 miles of dirt road we met up with Chris prior to taking the paved road for next 15 and Lucky was done for the day, tired and beat up from the wire he was ready to ride shot gut with Chris.

Marysville is located on the Oregon Trail, The Pony Express, St. Joe Road, Overland Stage, The Military ROad and the Otoe-Missouria Trail. It is a well preserved town with a vibrant community. It owes its wealth to the Union Pacific RR which has a massive yard which used to be in the middle of town but was moved to the outskirts where I came through. Finally, it is known as the “Black Squirrel City” because of the only population of all black squirrels which are abundant around our RV. It is rumored they escaped a traveling circus way back which accounts for their population.

All for today - thank you for your ongoing support.

Cheers,

David.
