Pre-Relaunch Update #4 - Monday, May 27th
Lucky received his 3rd chemo treatment today in his cycle of V-C-V-A-Off. Each of these are a component of the Wisconsin chemo protocol that is administered over 5 weeks with the 5th week being off because the “A” course is an IV drip over few hours while the others are quicker, the “A” round is big and he needs the following week off to recover. This cycle is done 4x over 19 weeks. The big news today is that after an ultra sound Lucky’s tumor is almost gone in his colon, the liver - while not normal because of what was there - is now cancer free and his lymph nodes are back to normal. Doctor told me this is an incredible outcome for where he was. Remission for Lymphoma may last a year. I asked him if he has ever seen a dog totally recover and he told me once in 12 years…for now, the family is happy and relieved as we almost had to put him down 3 weeks ago. One other nugget - when Lucky had stopped eating he lost 10 pounds and that could have been the end. He has gained back the weight from 70 down to 60 and today he was up to 71 pounds again.
So, we have a plan that we will find Oncology Vets along the route and keep him on cycle for the next few months.
Side bar: while most dogs are nervous about the Vets office, Lucky enjoys the attention. When he came home with me from Brazil, i had never heard him bark. He learned from our other 3 rescue dogs how to bark but he is not what i would call a barker. At the Vet, I can hear him in the back barking and the technicians/nurses tell me he is just calling them to pet him or get him out of the kennel. If you look at his legs and belly they are shaved for the IV’s and tests - he likes the attention!
Lucky is good to go, my stress fracture is good to go, Chris is good to go…just the RV and i will get more info on status tomorrow.
Keep the faith,
David.
