T-5 Days

Here we go again! This will be our 4th running of the Caminho da Fe. Amy and I tacked this for the first time in 2018 running from Sao Carlos to Aparecida and the magic of the trail connected us with Lucky Caminho. This was after our 2017 run where Jamey Masingill crewed us and sadly passed away before coming with us again in 2018. Perhaps Jamey sent us the gift of Lucky…Alan Lacerda and Nivaldo Filho, two firemen from Rio de Janeiro, supported us and we were blessed with their passion and caring for the journey. We bonded deeply and it changed all of our lives for the better.

Our next year in 2019 we took on the route of Sertanzinho to Aparecida which was a different branch and a few more miles - 430 vs 400. Alan and Nivaldo supported us again and it was an epic journey once again.

Then in 2020, we went back with Lucky to run a new branch from Borborema and roughly 450 miles. Alan returned as crew chief and Luiz replaced Nivaldo. Mayors of the towns welcomed Lucky back to his home country. Globo news covered the run as well as local papers - Lucky was a hero! The magic that year was strong and Lucky was at the center of it enjoying every minute.

This year we come back to run the only branch we have not travelled, Franca to Aparecida. Sadly, Lucky will not be there and we will run in remembrance of the bright light he was in our lives. Our friend Luiz will be running the BR135 this year so Caique, a friend of Alan’s will support and John Mathis, a good friend from Jacksonville, will be joining us to run his first 135 mile ultramarathon. We are all packing, working logistics and trying to avoid covid as this would derail our dream.

All for now -

Looking forward to sharing the magic from the trail soon.

Cheers,

David.
