T-1 Days to launch

While I can’t complain about the company and events I’ve been keeping in advance of the launch, it does feel like a bit of headwind with lost baggage and now the same symptoms I felt when I came down w COVID in Brazil on the last 135 miles of the run. Yesterday my throat was closed for business and I didn’t get out of bed other than to have a bowl of chicken noodle soup. Monica, Amy and Christina soldiered on without me drinking bottles of Cava and enjoying the late vibe in Madrid. Gabe and Shelby met up with the wedding party and cut out “early” at 2:30am as we had strict launch today at 8am. Once again the headwind today when cars weren’t ready and a late departure at 11:30am had me on edge. The silver lining for me, my throat feels a bit better today and perhaps whatever it is has moved to my head and thus able to swallow, an optimism that I can drink and eat my way through the first few days while I’m on the right side of feeling better.

San Sebastián is a wonderful little town; manageably quaint, vibrant with local culture and right on the water. We arrived in time to wander the busy streets after a sun filled afternoon walking into the various bars in old town and sampling the pincho’s or little appetizers with beers and wine finishing off at La Vina for arguably the worlds best cheesecake with glasses of Ribeiro del Duero wine. We are back in the apartment with nerves of tackling the biggest stage of the entire Camino tomorrow - St. Jean Pied de Port over the Pyrenees and into Roncesvalles with a climb of roughly 5k’. Gabe and Shelby, both runners decided to join us in the day one fun.

Here we go!

Cheers,

David.
