Day 116 - Friday, September 24

We were treated to another guest last night - Lisa Batchen-Smith flew in to Sacramento and joined us around 6pm for a night of dinner and catching up.

I woke up at 3:27am excited to get going for my last 30+ mile day before the victory laps coming into Mill Valley and Muir Beach. Chris and Lisa also felt the excitement and woke up with me for a cup of coffee and the morning chat.

I broke camp a little before 5am into the Police parking lot we stayed in, compliments of Fairfield City Hall - I ran through Main Street which was a vibrant city center and then into farmland that ran along I680 - my old highway friend…

I knocked out a quick 17 and met up with Lisa & Chris at a gas station off the access road. Chris served up his usual 10k calorie second breakfast and Lisa came out to join me for the second half of the day.

The route crossed the George Miller Memorial Bridge - a 2 mile span. California really invests in bike lanes and the entire route today had separate and safe lanes for bikes and runners, exceptional!

After the bridge we dropped into Martinez and then the fun really began for us - we got on a trail that took us to John Muir Ridge Trail where we were off road for 11 miles of total solitude and beauty. We dropped out to pavement around 4pm and decided to have Chris pull up the RV so we can boondock in the area for one last night. Chris began making BLT’s on the trip and after a hiatus, he decided to close the trip with them - and they were great.

Tonight will be my last night in the RV. I wake up to meet Matt and run 25 miles into Mill Valley where I will see Monica after 3+ months, celebrate her birthday and where my family will be waiting. Monica and I will sleep together in a real bed, in a real bedroom…

On Sunday we will wake up leisurely and walk together the final 6 miles over the hill to Muir Beach to end the journey while beginning our next chapter together. Looking forward to savoring every moment in the next few days.

Thank you for all your support -

Cheers,

David.
