T-1
Even though it’s day before launch, the adventure begins today as we need to crank up all machinery so that we can load groceries, have nightly ops meeting and be turnkey for Monday morning. Unfortunately we woke up to find out the battery was dead! Alex and Poppy are installing 2nd / back up battery and systems are back online. Sister Lisa, brother in law Mike, Poppy and Marylou all enjoying last meal at home and final cocktails on the ship. Tomorrow looks to be rain with potential gale force winds from the NNE but at least it will be 63 degrees. Have a few friends showing up at my place 6:30am to make the journey to the Atlantic Ocean where i had hoped to catch the sunrise at 7:26am and touch the water before heading northeast but with the weather who knows if we will see the sun or who will brave the conditions. After this 2 mile warmup, Alex and I head north along the beach and then east to cross the intracoastal on Beach Blvd which will take us over the Acosta bridge and finally onto Old Kings Hwy which will head north into Georgia. Hope to make around 30 miles first day. Finally, I plan to carry 3 special items: Rosary Beads from Jerusalem and although I’m not religious, my friend who gave them to me is deeply faithful and thus very meaningful to me, a Guardian Angel from a friend who is not religious but knowing only too well these adventures we go on sometime require a higher force to succeed and finally a heart that Monica gave me on our 28th anniversary yesterday.
