Day 2 - Tuesday, March 23
Stats for day 1: weight=168 (-1), 31 miles run and visited Jacksonville Beach, Downtown, Westside and Dinsmore. Two hugely important things happened on Day 2; first and most important is I found out how the ladies in my life really feel about me shaving my head and face. Monica thinks I look 30 years older and speaking to my mother and grandmother today they asked me how i had gained so much weight!? Think I’ll be letting it grow back as quickly as possible…secondly, I crossed into Georgia!
The RV generator needs service at 50 hours so Alex and Mike decided to make a run for the dealer we bought it from to get it done before we got too far from Jax and that left me solo for the day. Big risk that was mitigated as I had a really solid outing cranking out 37 miles passing through Callahan, Hilliard, then crossing FL/GA state line, Folkston and lastly Homeland where Alex found Okeefanokee RV Park. Sadly the only road available was US1 which was 2 lanes each way and not much of a shoulder. With trucks screaming by I didn’t feel comfortable bringing Lucky as he likes running on the white line to avoid the hot pavement which puts him in the road. There will be better days for him.
RV parks are very interesting places. I think people who live in them are inherently very social as the 2 nights we have constant visitors. Tonight we ate at the restaurant on premise because when i came in for the day they came out to give Lucky a piece of bacon. We met Desiree the waitress and Chris the cook. The only 2 employees and people in the restaurant. They were so nice and down to earth allowing me to split an order of onion rings and fried pickles which Alex let them know that I’m always complicating things, and then returning a bun that had mustard got me nervous but it was like we were making their day which as the only clients maybe it was true! Alex and I agreed that they made great fries & burgers so perfect spot. Next few days we won’t be as lucky with RV Parks where you get WiFi, power, water and sewer so new challenges await.
